Black History Month: Virtual Authors Visit
Time is flying and the spring is fast approaching. I cannot belelive that we are in the month of March already. I am reflecting on how busy the month of February was and I am only now catching up on my notes.
I had an awesome time on my first virtual authors visit with an energetic group of kindergartens and their amazing teachers last month. It was truly wonderful to see how Brown Skin Brown Spice has been used to add “flavour” literally to their learning experience. I was touched by Ms Vasquez use of spices and sensory bins to really emphasize the experiential aspect of their journey through culture and spice.
To round off our time together, the children shared beautiful portraits. Absolute masterpieces. I, in exchange had the opportunity to share with them what its like being an author and an illustrator.
Children are so precious and their excitement is absolutely contagious.
Thank you to Mrs. Vasquez and the kindergarten team over at Toronto District School Board (TDSB) for creating this memorable event and for including Brown Skin Brown Spice in your class.
This authors heart is warm, toasty and ready for spring.
““ Brown Skin Brown Spice exquisitely highilights the beauty of skin tones, through the expoloration of spice. Spices alone are an adventure of different cultures through the different aromatic experiences. Thank you for writing such a wonderful piece. My kindergarten students thoroughly enjoyed reading your book.” ”
